A citywide, 1:254,000,000 scale model of the Solar System built by the Lethbridge Astronomy Society. At this scale, the cosmos transforms into a surprisingly relatable walk.
The model anchors downtown, where the main post office serves as the Sun. The inner planets—Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars—are clustered nearby and easily walkable. Strolling between them reveals a poetic coincidence: an average human walking speed of roughly 5 km/h maps directly to the scaled-down speed of light. As you walk from Earth to Mars, you are essentially moving at lightspeed.
