Lethbridge traded its modern-day bustle for medieval merriment on Saturday, September 5, as Fort Whoop-Up hosted the Renaissance Faire, presented by the Galt Museum & Archives. Running from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the event brought a full day of historical fun to the fort grounds.

Attending the fair meant stepping back in time — and into the shoes of an era of knights and maidens, fights and fancy footwork. Visitors could take in honorable combat courtesy of the Company of the Black Spears, the local chapter dedicated to historical European martial arts, or watch olde-style dancing unfold in the courtyard of the fort. There truly was something for everyone.

Beyond the swordplay and dancing, the fair leaned into its "something for everyone" spirit with archery, tarot readings, candle making, and a magical market of curiosities. The vendors — all talented local artisans — showed off their wares, making for a browsing experience that was as insightful as it was fun, giving visitors a genuine taste of historical craft alongside the entertainment.

With its growing lineup of activities, the Fort Whoop-Up Renaissance Faire is shaping up to be a welcome fixture on Lethbridge's fall calendar — a small pocket of "days of yore" tucked right into the river valley.
